Europe is much affected by the present flow of refugees from the MENA region. Nothing else can demonstrate more that climate change is happening already in a direct way. Desertification intensifies in both North-Africa and the Middle East, Gulf countries included. Water is and will be a resource with diminishing availability, while temperature gets higher and higher, becoming unbearable for crops, fauna and humans. Despite strong lobbying, oil and gas as resources are likely to lose importance with the the implementation of the SDGs and the development and spread of innovative techniques. (Solar power in the MENA could be an optimal option to supply energy needs.) I consider along these that the issues of migration will intensify, which needs a very sensitive, resilient and human approach to avoid conflicts among the cultures of the North and South of the Mediterranean.
